How can small independent retailers stand out in an increasingly crowded market on the high street and online?

I have long believed that retailing is what we British do best and our competitors acknowledge this. Even Napoleon’s apparent statement that we are “a nation of shopkeepers” complimented us on this – albeit in a backhanded fashion!

But this presents our independent retailing community with a problem. There are literally tens of thousands of you out there. Some of you are competing against each other. All of you are competing against the mighty high street chains. And most of you will have impeccable retailing standards.
