Virtually plant powered

VegfestUK, organisers of some of Europe’s biggest vegan events over the previous two decades, have announced a series of online events as live venues across the UK remain closed.

These are free to attend, hosted on the website Vegfest.co.uk and across the #vegfestuk social media platforms, including stalls, presentations and livestreams featuring a wide array of vegan and plant-based topics.

A three-day Plant Powered Expo Online (March 19-21) includes a trade focus on the Friday, and a Health and Fitness focus for the weekend. This series of events follows on from the successful Summerfest Online event held last August, a weekend packed full of exhibitors, presentations and panels, all of which remain available on the Vegfest.co.uk website.

Forging the healthcare link

Health Food Stores received greater recognition for their role in preventive care at the recent UK Annual Social Prescribing Link Worker Day Conference, sponsored by Viridian Nutrition.

Viridian’s Technical Manager Jenny Carson presented the case for Health Food Stores at the virtual event, championing their frontline support role and services to link workers, GPs, social care and health leaders and advisors.

Jenny, a Master of Research in Public Health, addressed 300 attendees discussing how nutrition can impact health and wellbeing and invited attendees to ‘tap into’ and work closer with their local health food stores, supporting the Government’s Social Prescribing strategy. She discussed the barriers to nutrition, how Health Food Stores work with the HFI Protocol and help with preventive care in their local communities.

A 12-minute video created by Viridian Nutrition, presenting the case for Health Food Stores to integrate with the Government’s Social Prescribing strategy is now available for health retailers to share. The video is available on Viridian’s YouTube channel @ViridianTV.

Natural & Organic Products Europe won’t be taking place in the Spring as had been hoped when it was postponed almost a year ago. A new date will be announced in March.
