Shoppers engaging with #shoplocal

Covid-19 accelerated an already growing trend of consumer support to shop locally, says AI social media platform Maybe.

Between March 1 and June 30 there were more than 77,000 pieces of content across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the #shoplocal hashtag.

While the conversation grew on the previous period by only 1%, the engagement with that content in likes, comments and shares grew by almost 900%. This shows the increased consumer interest in what local and independent businesses have to say and offer.

Instagram has a ready-made feature to allow retailers to badge their content with a shop local button, while both Facebook and Instagram shopping solutions make it easier for indies to get online.
