BOOM Awards entry is free to small businesses

Recognising the major challenges and disruptions faced due to COVID-19, Soil Association Certification is offering small businesses free entry to the BOOM Awards (Best of Organic Market)

The offer is open to SA-certified businesses with organic sales under £250,000 and limited to two free entries per business.

Back for a fourth year, the BOOMs – the UK’s only organic awards – are expanding to celebrate excellence across organic farming, beauty & wellbeing, fashion & textiles as well as food & drink, reflecting the range of organic-certified businesses working to restore nature, health and a safe climate.

The Awards are partnered by Ocado and associate sponsor is Yeo Valley. There are also various category sponsors.

Entry is open until March 1. Smaller businesses certified by Soil Association Certification can enter two categories free of charge, and those entering the food & drink product categories can also enter the Ocado “Winner of Winners” Award free of charge.

Judging will take place in Spring 2021, with the awards ceremony taking place in Summer.

The BOOM Awards are an opportunity for all organic businesses to showcase their products and initiatives, celebrate success, generate media coverage and increase sales and listings.

2019 BOOMs winner Kerry Dodd from Hembridge Organics, which makes organic jams and preserves using fruit and veg rejected by supermarkets, says: “I used to think that the Boom Awards were just for the big corporate organic businesses or inherited organic farms, not for small ‘cottage’ industries like mine. Turnover and volume have increased significantly since the awards, which has enabled me to help more organic growers by clearing their unwanted produce for my products.”

Winning in 2019 was a morale booster for Riverford Organic Farmers. Head of channel marketing Mark Moody says: “It’s fantastic to be nominated for a BOOM Award, and if you are lucky enough to win one it is a real morale booster for the team back at the farm. It’s great for us all as co-owners to be recognised for all the amazing work that goes into ensuring we send out the best produce week in, week out.”

Nielsen market data released last year revealed that the UK organic market reached its highest growth level in over 10 years, with buoyant growth of 9.5% for the 12 months to October 2020.
