Top awards and big announcements at HFMA AGM

The Health Food Manufacturers’ Association (HFMA) enjoyed a bumper annual meeting recently with several important announcements.

Dr Marilyn Glenville, the UK’s leading nutritionist specialising in women’s health, was named winner of this year’s Maurice Hanssen Award of Honour. The award is presented in recognition of a lifetime of outstanding contribution to the industry.

Dr Marilyn Glenville PhD (Cantab), AFBPsS, FBANT has been working in the natural health industry for over 35 years in clinical practice and is the author of 17 internationally best-selling books which have sold over one million copies worldwide and been translated into over 20 languages.

She is the former President of the Food and Health Forum at the Royal Society of Medicine and was an observer on the Food Standards Agency’s Expert Group on the safety of vitamins and minerals and highly regarded throughout the industry.

Nutritionist and author Rob Hobson, who has written for several national newspapers and health magazines, was named this year’s Health Journalist of the Year.

HFMA Executive Director Graham Keen announced the creation of two new roles to further support members and to enhance the services that the HFMA can offer. Dr Katie Burren has been made Director of Technical & Regulatory Affairs and Esther Mills-Roberts is now Director of Communications.

Meanwhile HealthyDoesIt.org, an initiative created during the first lockdown in 2020 to educate consumers about natural health products, has been gifted to the National Association of Health Stores (NAHS) allowing the retail industry to take ownership of the initiative and drive it forward, supporting independent retailers and NAHS members.
