Just one in seven people in their early 80s will be free of any diagnosed long-term health conditions. By the age of 85, a whopping 80% of us will be living with at least two.

Then, by our late eighties, more than one in three of us will have difficulties undertaking five or more tasks of daily living unaided.

These are just some of the facts highlighted by Age UK in its 2017 report, Health and Care of Older People in England.

The report goes on to say that the number of people aged 85 and over has increased by a third in the last decade, so it’s easy to see where one of the main pressure points on healthcare services lies.
